The Finance Department at Sigma VIG is entering a new phase of development, where automation and artificial intelligence are becoming engines of operational improvement. The new project for automating the registration of purchase invoices is an initiative that combines the SelfCare platform, AI technology, and automatic integration with SAP. This has brought a tangible transformation in the way financial processes are handled within the company.

From a traditional manual process, burdened with high workload and long processing times, Sigma VIG has moved to an intelligent mechanism that reads, processes, and automatically records thousands of invoices with high accuracy. This project represents not only an increase in efficiency and precision but also a new strategic approach that allows the finance team to focus on value-added analysis. Driven by the transformative spirit of the VIG Group, this development is a concrete example of how innovation and technology are put at the service of business, marking a strong step toward the finance of the future.

In this interview, Mrs. Kozeta Nervaj, Director of the Finance Department, shares her experience, assessment, and strategic perspective on the impact of this innovative project at Sigma VIG.

 

Mrs. Kozeta, what motivated you to undertake this transformative project in the field of accounting?

This project was born as a direct response to the increased operational pace and the demand for accuracy, efficiency, and real-time reporting. In the finance department, the volume of invoices and manual processing often created overload and delays. In line with the Group’s philosophy, which promotes innovation and automation in processes, we saw a clear opportunity to introduce artificial intelligence as a new actor in operations.

 

How does invoice registration automation work in practice?

The process is designed as an intelligent chain: purchase invoices are retrieved from the SelfCare platform, AI reads them, converts them into a standard format, and generates the document that is automatically uploaded to SAP. So, we move from a manual process that required a lot of time and verification to a mechanism that works within seconds, with a very high level of accuracy.

 

What have been the most noticeable benefits for your department?

The benefits have been immediate:

Essentially, AI does not replace the accountant; on the contrary, it empowers them, giving more space for strategic tasks.

 

How does this project align with the Vienna Insurance Group’s transformative strategy?

VIG has made a clear call to all its companies to act, to drive modernization, efficiency, and a culture of innovation across the Group. This project is a concrete example of its strategy: adopting smart solutions, eliminating bureaucracy, automating processes, and increasing business value.

We are not just automating a technical process; we are modernizing the way finance operates as a profession.

 

What message would you give to other VIG colleagues considering similar projects?

Do not fear technology. Artificial Intelligence is not a threat but a strategic partner. Its introduction into processes creates stability, accuracy, and efficiency, bringing real measurable value. Intelligent processes are now the new standard, and evolution does not wait.

 

What are your plans for continuing this transformation?

Our plan is clear: further expansion of automation. We aim to explore opportunities for additional integrations with SAP, deeper use of AI for analysis and verification, and an increase in the volume of digitized processes. This is only the first step toward smarter and more integrated finance.

It represents the transition from yesterday’s finance to the finance of the future: smarter, faster, and more focused on strategic value.
