For the first time, Albania hosted one of the most important regional forums of the Vienna Insurance Group (VIG): the Underwriting and Claims Management Conference, the leading insurance group in Central and Eastern Europe.

The conference was held at the Rogner Hotel in Tirana and brought together around 91 participants from 21 countries and 36 member companies of the group, together with the strategic risk management partner, Risk Consult. The two-day event focused on the most current topics and challenges facing the sector, such as sustainability, the implementation of the Transition Plan, the use of artificial intelligence in underwriting, and best practices in claims handling.

The event was organized by VIG Corporate Business, with the special participation of Mr. Peter Höfinger, Deputy CEO of the VIG Group, and Mr. Josef Aigner, Head of Underwriting for Corporate Businesses, and was moderated by Ms. Reka Hassa.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Klaidi Çitozi, CEO of Sigma VIG – part of the group for 18 years – emphasized the importance of international cooperation for sharing successful practices and strengthening sustainable development in the insurance sector.

The highlight of the conference was the speech of Mr. Peter Höfinger, who praised the continuous growth of the group, thanked all employees for the excellent results and emphasized the importance of the local approach in the management of the group companies. He also recalled the essential role of staff in an increasingly automated industry, underlining that human capital remains the key pillar of success.

Highlights of the program included special presentations by Prof. Dr. René Schmidpeter, one of the most influential figures in the field of sustainability, as well as Patrick Bungard, who brought a concrete demonstration of the use of artificial intelligence in the field of insurance underwriting.
