Climate Change and Youth Education – An Initiative by Sigma VIG
On October 13, marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Sigma VIG, in collaboration with the Red Cross Branch of Tirana, organized an awareness activity with students from “A.Z. Çajupi” school in Tirana.
The aim of this event was to raise awareness about the climate crisis and its impact on the environment, the economy, and society. Climate change and global warming are increasingly affecting our daily lives:
- The last 10 years have been the hottest ever recorded.
- Sea levels have risen by more than 20 cm since 1900.
- Over 4 million hectares of forests burn every year worldwide.
Through open discussions with students, the event emphasized the importance of everyday actions—such as recycling, saving energy, and using bicycles—as simple but concrete steps toward a more sustainable planet.
During the meeting, students were also introduced to the EU Youth Green Cinema: Green Deal project, an educational initiative featuring over 50 European films accompanied by learning materials, seminars, and discussions on climate change. The project aims to promote a more sustainable Europe and encourage “green” habits in line with the EU’s climate strategy.
Sigma VIG remains committed to support initiatives that promote environmental protection and youth education, contributing to the creation of a more aware and sustainable society for future generations.
