June – A Month of Life: Sigma VIG Supports Blood Donation for Thalassemia Children
At Sigma Vienna Insurance Group (Sigma VIG), we believe that small actions can make a big difference—especially when it comes to saving lives.
Every year, June is recognized as the month of blood donation for children with thalassemia, a genetic condition that requires regular blood transfusions. To support this important cause, the staff of Sigma VIG proudly joined the initiative in cooperation with the Blood Transfusion Association and the humanitarian organization “Fundjavë Ndryshe.”
A dedicated space was set up at the Sigma VIG Head Office, creating a safe and comfortable environment for volunteers to undergo the necessary medical checks and blood donation process. All participants completed a detailed questionnaire and health screening to ensure safe and responsible donations.
Although not everyone was eligible to donate due to health conditions or medical history, the enthusiasm and willingness to contribute were truly inspiring. The medical team ensured that every donor received the right post-donation care and hydration. On average, each volunteer donated 400 ml of blood, representing about 10% of the body’s circulating volume—a small act with a life-saving impact.
Blood donation is a selfless and vital gesture. Since blood cannot be synthetically produced, donors remain the only source of hope for children living with thalassemia. For the Sigma VIG team, this initiative was more than an act of kindness—it was a chance to give life, hope, and a smile to children who need it most.
At Sigma VIG Albania, we remain committed to promoting health awareness, community care, and social responsibility, encouraging everyone to take part in causes that truly make a difference.
